Footy Friday- eats & drinks

It’s winter, I’m a Melbournite, thus I’m all about the footy, or AFL to be exact at the moment. I’ll be upfront too, we are a Hawks family…I used to be a (and secretly still love) North Melbourne gal but hubby has converted me to the brown and gold. Tonight my two teams play each other..and we’ll be there!

AFL 2015 Rd 05 - North Melbourne v Hawthorn
Round 5 last year #hawkswon #justsayin

What’s your bevvie of choice for footy viewing? If we are at the game, mine is generally coffee and hot chocolate for the warmth and occasionally a glass of red before we go to our seats. At home though, it’s definitely a good robust red…and usually from my latest Vinomofo purchase!

Duck Sauce Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2015 $15/$90 (6) We have just bought a case of this latest Duck Sauce vintage & can’t wait to try it. Perfect for your Saturday arvo games, you don’t want too heavy a red during the day- there is another game later one afterall, and this one goes perfectly with a gourmet (or not!) meat pie!

Black Market GSM 2015 $8.90/$106.80 (12) Until shacking up with Vinomofo, I hadn’t tried a GSM (Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre) blend and I have to say, I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this style. It is perfect for your Friday or Saturday in front of the tv yelling for/at your fave team whilst scoffing some gorgeously slow cooked lamb shanks…for example!

So you’ve clicked buy on the wine (using the link www.vinomofo.com/lifelovesandliz to score $25 off your first order of course!), now to organise the food to scoff while you quaff πŸ˜‰

Beef Pie 4pack $11.99 Nothing says footy like a meat pie, so invite your friends…or just the other half & kiddies, and hook into a pie whilst watching the game. And there are family sized pies available also as well as chicken & a party pie/sausage roll pack! #sorted

Serve your pies with these fab homemade potato wedges…I like to do half regular potato & half sweet potato or sometimes even carrot using the purple heirloom variety as well for extra colour & fun!

Lamb Shank 2pk $10.99 So with a little, not much thanks to the amazingness of slow cookers, but with a tad extra prep time dish up these yummo lamb shanks with a pile of mash & a few greens to really fill up for the big game.

This is one of my fave lamb shanks recipes (yes I have a few!) but this one with silverbeet is right up there! I will say though, I’m a bit lazy and tend to piff it all in the slow cooker rather than fluffing about with the oven and then use the oven at the end for the colour & caramelising #Shhhhh

With all the vino and food sorted, all you need to do is prep your possy on the couch, whack on the club song for a bit of a pre-game rev up and you’re done! πŸ˜‰ Hubs and the babes are going to so love me for this post!! Their team, the food and the wine (for the grown ups anyways!)
