Christmas in July or August <3
For many of us, this is as close as we will get to a white Christmas. Snow at Christmas time just isn’t a thing in Australia, not that I’m complaining as I hate the cold and love the sun and seafood we have at Christmas instead. But it is fun to have a faux Christmas, and celebrate mid-year, pretending to have a white Christmas. Often it is with friends we do this rather than family which makes it extra spesh in my books. I remember we did this one year when I was young, we even went so far as to buy presents, of the $2 shop variety, and had a great time! We have a heap of birthdays in July so don’t really have time to host a Christmas in July, so I’m going to have it in August instead. Christmas in August…doesn’t really have the same ring does it?!
I’ve put together a four course menu for the occasion, I would love to do five or more one day, but for now four is perfect! Starting late arvo with bubbles and appetisers and moving into entree, main and finally dessert by mid evening, slowly paced so it’s enjoyable and not rushed. Hubby is following a low FODMAP diet at the moment, so all recipes have been chosen with this in mind. They are either FODMAP friendly or are easily altered to be so.
- tuscan pork belly…requires a few alterations but I’m confident in getting close to the traditional flavours
- crispy smashed potatoes
- brussel sprouts with bacon & macadamias
- sauteed green beans with pine nuts
