International Champagne Day

Is there any better excuse to pop open a bottle of bubbly, or even better, Champagne, than International Champagne Day?! I love a good bubbly and feel it’s a very underused wine varietal. I suppose a lot of that has to do with it being seen as a gal’s drink more than a men’s and the fact we use it as a drink to kick things off with but not always stick with. I’ve put together a three course meal with three different varietals of bubbly with the help of various vino sites as to food and wine pairings.

entree:

Kick things off with a blanc de blanc varietal and serve with oysters (a classic pairing), sushi, sashimi  or scallops.

the vinomofo offering:

Bisou Bisou Blanc de Blancs $15/$90 (6pk)

main:

The main course is perfect for a vintage sparkling/champagne. It can hold it’s own against, and cut through, heavier, oilier foods such as salmon fillet or duck.

the vinomofo offering:

Heidsieck Monopole ‘Gold Top’ 2009 Champagne $60/$360 (6pk) this is a real, honest to god Champagne, one you can actually truthfully call, Champagne!icon
dessert:

This course is perfect for your sweeter, Rose style bubbles. Sweet with sweets!

the vinomofo offering:

Little Helper Rosato 2016 $9.90/$118.80 (12pk) not a bubbly rose, but at this price I’ll probs just blow my own bubbles in it πŸ˜‰ it’s sweet, fruity nature is perfect for pairing with dessert
Ok, so my food plating skills are sadly lacking, but I will keep practising! At least I tried, and enjoyed some yums as a result!!!! So indulge and enjoy a bubbly or two this evening…& maybe even splash out on some real Champagne. Or buy a box for “Christmas”!!! Happy Champagne Day lovelies xx
